Mental Health Days
A new law went into effect in January 2022 that allows students up to 5 mental health days per school year. The law states that these absences do not require a doctor’s note, however after a student has used two of these days, an automatic referral must be made to a school social worker or counselor in order to help identify and address the student’s mental health needs.
Here is a link to a document with more information about mental health days as well as tips for parents to address mental health needs. You may also contact Kelly Eckman (JH/HS Social Worker) at keckman@cusd322.org, Beth Johnston (Elementary Social Worker) at bjohnston@cusd322.org, or your student’s principal with any questions about this new law.
